From Nkhamenya to Mzimba

This is the most difficult leg of the walk. We all have big blisters on our feet but we are very determined to finish off the walk.

On arrival in Mzimba, we were welcomed by a local youth organisation. It was around 3:30pm when we arrived. We have arranged to sleep here in Mzimba so that we can continue tommorrow morning.

Since there are no rooms to lent, we are being hosted by a certain couple which is taking care of us.
We are planning to finish the whole journey on Thursday or Friday.

Thanks to TNM

There was need to communicate with the outside world and update them on what we are going through along the way. We needed cellphone airtime and TNM Malawi responded to our request and gave us airtime which we had used the past days.

True to their motto, TNM was always with us. Thanks for helping us.

In Kasungu

This morning we are in Kasungu at Nkhamenya Trading Centre. Very tired but determined to finish the walk. Basically we are left with one district before we reach Mzuzu city but we are talking of alot of kilometres to cover.

We are now two people because we left Joseph in Lilongwe. The second leg from Lilongwe was not easy especially because we had to pass thru alot of undeveloped area. No villages were in sight for many kilometers we walked. We had to walk fast to find a place to sleep lest it gets dark before we reached a village.

In Lilongwe.

We are now in Lilongwe after exactly seven days. We have done alot of awareness along the way.

We went to churches, District Commissioner offices, markets and schools in some areas. Our message is simple, telling everyone who cares to hear the plight of street kids and the dangers of child trafficking.

Of all the areas we have gone to Dedza stands out as a district which has large numbers of trafficking cases.

We will continue to update you on what we are going through. Thanks for reading.

starting off

In an hours time we will be departing from Blantyre old town hall to Mzuzu on foot.

We will have a brief ceremony where well wishers including Honourable Patricia Kaliati will see us off.

All the preparations are over though we had to overcome some challenges. We need your help in any form.

Please help to save a street kid or any abandoned child in Malawi. Pray for us.

introduction

Step Kids Awareness (Steka) is an organisation that takes care of street kids from around Blantyre in Malawi. We are currently keeping 26 kids and we are looking for funds to be taking care of more kids.

In an effort to raise funds we have organised a walk on foot from Blantyre to Mzuzu (app 900KM). The journey which will start on 6th June 2010 to up to around 30th will be taken by three people which include the Executive Director, Godknows Maseko.

This blog will be giving you details of the trip.

Hope you will be ou readers and will help us take care of the kids. For more information visit steka's blog or follow @stekamalawi on twitter. You can even join STEP KIDS AWARENESS (STEKA) group on Facebook.
